Counselling and Wellbeing at Stream

St Patrick’s College has a full-time counsellor who is a member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors. Students are offered a confidential and professional service. Students can be seen individually or in small groups, through an appointment system.

Possible reasons to see a counsellor:

  • Parents separating
  • Worried about violence at home
  • A death in the family
  • Feeling worried, anxious or down
  • Anger keeps getting you into trouble
  • Feeling lonely or stuck
  • Sexuality issues
  • Alcohol or drug problems
  • Friendship or relationship issues
  • Personal Issues - low self-esteem
  • Bullying, harassment

A counsellor can help to:

  • Help you see things in a new way
  • Reduce stress
  • Learn to manage your mood better
  • Do things differently
  • Discover different ways forward
  • Plan and set goals
  • Get to know yourself better
  • Improve your relationships
  • Help you look after yourself better
  • Get support from other agencies in the community if needed

A counsellor may:

  • See you on your own or with a support person
  • See you with your whānau if needed
  • Act on your behalf with your consent
